Traps in saving the BIOS/UEFI setup on USB drives

When saving your BIOS/UEFI profile on an USB drive, make sure that the file was actually written before making changes!

Supported File Systems

It seems that FAT32 is the most supported File System from UEFI/BIOS in MSI (AMD Chipset B350 - Ryzen platform in case you wonder), but probably in general...

Solution

In order to avoid other issues, I suggest making the situation in the simplest way, that is:

  1. Format the entire drive
  2. Create only one partition
  3. Format it as FAT32Reboot
  4. Save your BIOS/UEFI profile there
  5. Check that the file was written and save it somewhere else too (you need to reboot to check it, a message at task completation doesn't mean anything. It's a nice bug in my Motherboard, just so you know)
  6. Once ready, make your config changes in the BIOS/UEFI and repeat the saving/checking operation every time you need it.

Why all this is so important?

In general, I've seen cases where some settings brought me to clean up the CMOS and I've lost all my setup, nothing major, but it's annoying to spend hours of troubleshooting for the current issue + making again your setup.
